Karate excellence and academic achievement go hand in hand for Zen Shin Kids
The Karate students at Zen- Shin back belt academy have got two good reasons to celebrate this week. The club based at Mere Green School and Mere Green community centre managed to attain at total of 19 medals at a regional competition on Sunday 28th February. Held at Stockland Green Leisure centre over 100 competitors from seven clubs battled for the top spot on the podium. The 18 strong team competed in three diciplines of Kata, Team Kata and Kumite (fighting) and managed exceptional performances in all. James and Lauren Garratt (8 and 11) who represented England in the World Karate Open last October bagged five medals in total including Jamess Gold Medal for Kata and Bronze Medal for Team and Laurens two silver medals for Kata and Team Kata and Bronze medal in the fighting event. A return to form by Becky Parsons( 10yrs) secured her a silver and a bronze medal in Kata and Team Kata, whilst Isabella Fahey (9) secured a silver medal in individual Kata and a worthy Gold medal In Team Kata with her team mates Hania Batosik and Georgie Gough . Keeping it in the Family Isabellas cousin Grace Egan securing a Bronze Medal in individual Kata. The youngest competitors Noah Green and Joseph Whitehouse did a brave performance in their individual Kata and in team Kata Joseph and his team mate Tom Hewlett were just a couple of points off getting a place on the podium. In total the team managed to obtain 7 Bronze Medals 6 Silver medals and 6 Gold. After the excitement of the weekend Zen shin had even more to celebrate with three of its students passing the 11 plus exams and securing a place at local Grammar Schools. Sensei John Richards said “ all of my students have worked hard and I am very proud of all their achievements. This is a prime example of not only the physical benefits that training with Zen Shin can provide, but that it also promotes a positive attitude and a strong work ethic.” If you wish to train with Zen Shin Black belt academy please contact John Richards on 0121 233 2577 or go to Zen shin .co.uk
