Healthy Eating

Following is what I’ve put together on healthy eating. Without going in to lots of detail it’s tough to put a few paragraphs together o
n healthy eating without preaching to people, so I made it personal to me. I hope this gets people interested enough to ask.
Healthy eating isn’t all about giving yourself a strict regime, telling yourself you can’t having something or starving yourself.
It certainly isn’t about being on a Diet. Most people that go on a diet end up putting all if not more weight back on.
I’ve been what doctors consider overweight for most of my life. Until recently I didn’t really care about it, but as I got older (and higher up my grades), I wanted to do something about it. Rather than just cutting things out and being told I can’t have them (which makes me want to eat them more), I made it a lifestyle change, but I still wanted to eat as much as I wanted.
Now I can’t take all the credit for coming up with some new fangled way of eating healthily, I did my research and joined Slimming World.
Eating is now all about food optimising and allows me to each as much as I want of the good things
and some of the bad things. The main difference is, nothing is off limits.
Imagine if you could have as much roast chicken, mash potato, pasta, rice or steak as you like.
A typical day for me is:
Breakfast
2 x Weetabix with strawberries and blueberries
Lunch
Pasta with tomato sauce and parmesan cheese (as much pasta and tomato sauce as I like)
Dinner
Mash potato, peas, sweetcorn, carrots and home made gravy (as much of any of that as I like)
Snacks
Grapes, banana, bag of popcorn
I’m actually encouraged to make sure I’m never hungry and I can still have a treat every now and then with a Chinese, curry or a beer (whiskey in my case).
This isn’t a diet. I’ll say it again…………….this isn’t a diet. I have a massive range of food I can choose from.
I now cook curries, pies, chinese food, and it’s some of the best food I’ve tasted.
I thought I’d want all of those cakes, chocolate, biscuits etc, but to be honest, I don’t. The variation and amount of food I’m allowed means there is always something to pick at or make.
It also saves me money on shopping. People say it’s cheaper to buy packet food and frozen things, and that may be true for some things, but I’m actually spending less on food per week than before.
In my first week, I lost 7 ½ lbs and 2 stones over an 8 week period.
There’s obviously a lot more to it than what’s here and I’d be more than happy to talk to anyone interested in moving to a healthier lifestyle (it’s not a diet). I’m on the forum if you want to send me a message or
