The students and insgturctors met up at 7:30 in the morning to begin warming up,

running down and training on the beach and in the sea.

the training course consisted of 5 training sessions which overall came to around

fourteen hours of hard work, the students worked extremely hard and did

themselves proud with, Cejay, Jason, callumn and kodie all gaining

Five blackbelts stood out on the course being; cejay bailey, Afiya Richards,

Mitchel Davis, Mark Caddy and James Murphy who all worked exceptionally hard.

Afiya worked extremely hard in all aspects of the course from running down to the

beach to practicing kata, to kumite and ippons on the grass in the warm weather

making her 17th year on the course and her best one yet.

The little ninjas also had a great time training on the beach and getting thrown

in the sea, they even got the chance to make a few sand castles as a little treat.

And  a final well done to the three kick boxing ladies who took part and got

a better insight into martial arts and karate as a whole.

The weekend was a huge success with everyone who took part having

a great time and putting the effort in to make it a smooth and

enjoyable weekend.

Shushi-no-kum Bo Kata PDF Print E-mail
History of the Bo or Kon
As  with Many Weapons of  ancient heritage, the Bo,kon or straight staff is one of the five weapons systematized by the early Okinawan developers of the style known as te (hand). In feudal Japan it was part of the bugei (early Japanese martial arts) and was used by samurai, priests, and commoners alike. Its six foot length made it an apt weapon against swordsman, disarming the opponent while allowing the user to remain at a safe distance.
Traditional use: The Bo or kon evolved from a pole lanced across the shoulders to carry water or other loads. (fruits or vegetables) As a fighting instrument, it allowed blocking and striking against a range of weapons.
Current use: Now part of the budo, the Bo is still used in kata performance. Physical conditioning with the Bo improves balance and upper body strength.
