GRADING SYSTEM KYU GRADES
Kyu gradings are held every 3 months. All gradings are assessed by Shihan 7th Dan. To
qualify for grading, a minimum of 24 sessions must be attended, good spirit and attitude
must be shown and a suitable improvment in the students karate.
Normally the gradings take place at the Honbu Dojo in St Georges Post 16 Centre Great
Hampton Row Hockley Birmingham.

The requirements for each belt vary as a student progresses, and each form of karate has a different grading system, however it is commonly noted that the progression of learning is in the following order:
- Jyukyu - 10th Kyu 3-months
- Kyukyu - 9th Kyu 3-months
- Hachikyu - 8th Kyu 3-months
- Shichikyu - 7th Kyu 3-months
- Rokukyu - 6th Kyu 3-months
- Gokyu - 5th Kyu 3-months
- Yonkyu - 4th Kyu 3-months
- Sankyu - 3rd Kyu 6-months
- Nikyu - 2nd Kyu 6-months
- Shokyu - 1st Kyu 9-months
- Shodan - 1st Dan 9-months
- Nidan - 2nd Dan 2-years
- Sandan - 3rd Dan 3-years
- Yondan - 4th Dan 4-years
- Godan - 5th Dan 5-years
- Rokudan - 6th Dan 6-years
- Shichidan - 7th Dan 7-years
- Hachidan - 8th Dan 8-years
- Kyudan - 9th Dan 9-years
- Jyudan - 10th Dan 10-years
